Paintbrushes are ideal for painting and priming base surfaces before applying the tesserae. You will also need one if you want to paint the sides on the mosaic rather than applying siding tiles or tesserae.

A glue spreader looks similar to a spatular except that it has a groove like edge which means that when you lay the tesserae there will be space for the tiles to move and that glue will not come up the sides of the tiles. Pour the glue on the base and then use the glue spreader to disperse it evenly.
