I wanted to make a some small { aprox 5 pin bowleing ball size} mosaic balls for gifts ... I think glass globes as bases would be too fragile...
I wonder if styrofoam balls { the kind that are sold for crafts} would hold up or disinagrate over time.. any suggestions on pretreatment to help them last longer or what else I could use as a base ..or what to make one out of ?????

Hi Bren,
Styrofoam should be fine. I haven't actually used it myself but have seen it used and am interested in doing some more sculptural pieces with it. It might be worth contacting the manufacturer and talking to them about longevity - and maybe just do a few experiments. - not much help I know but i have definitely seen it used inside and out!

Bren
I just started using styrofoam to create a 3D appearance with wall hangings.
It works really well. I am not sure of the long term wear and tear.
Especially in the form of a ball. Please post your results.
